Vampire Woman Loves Gravel

Apparently mother of four Maria Jose Cristern loves nothing more than a good gravel, especially when it’s ordered through Bulk Aggregates, he favorite variety is the golden 20mm. This former lawyer turned to tattoos and piercings when she was recovering from an assault.
With 98% of her body in tattoos, horn surgically implanted in her forehead and also had dental work to give her fangs, we think that Maria is one very interesting Vamp and also a very big gravel lover.

10mm gravel now cleared from Hampshire beach

Dredged 10mm gravel has been dumped by a sailing club on a Hampshire beach, which covered the sand and left drops that were several feet deep; it has now been cleared up.

In the process of clearing a channel for boats, Hill Head Sailing Club left 4,000 tonnes of gravel waste on Hill Head beach, Fareham.

The mounds of stones have now been spread out along the foreshore to clear the beach.  The stones were dredged up last month by the sailing club, who had put the gravel on the foreshore between high and low water – where the tide can take it away.

This year, the club needed a licence from the Marine Management Organisation, but if it put the gravel above the high water line a licence was not needed.

Councillors blamed a “bureaucratic mistake” which meant the gravel was left above the high water mark.

Councillor Arthur Mandry said: “It was a big bureaucratic mistake, there was some confusion as to where the gravel should be placed.

“It ended up too high up the beach. They have now remedied it and apologised to everybody.”

The council said the sailing club would seek early permission and make sure all the consents were in place before it starts on any future works on the beach.

What is Hoggin?

Hoggin is basically a mix of sand, gravel and clay that binds firmly when compacted.

It is perfect for creating a pathway as it allows water to drain through it, meaning it’ll never get waterlogged.

Its pleasant sandy colour means that it is aesthetically pleasing, as well as easy to maintain – only occasional weeding needed!

‘Self-healing’ concrete being developed at Northumbria University

Researchers at Northumbria University are looking into using a bacteria to help develop ‘self-healing’ concrete.

Dr. Alan Richardson, a Senior Lecturer in Construction in the School of the Built and Natural Environment, is leading the research which would fill cracks in concrete buildings.

They are using a ground-borne bacteria called bacilli megaterium. This is grown on a nutrient broth of yeast, minerals and urea to create calcite, a crystalline form of natural calcium carbonate.

This can be added to concrete, where it breeds and spreads, sealing the concrete’s cracks and keeping out water and other damaging substances to prolong its life.

Dr Richardson said: “This project is hugely exciting. The potential is there to have a building that can look after itself.”
