Volunteers to help on new crushed concrete Jubilee Footpath
It has been revealed that work is to start next week on a new all-weather Jubilee Footpath at Quaker Wood, the community woodland in Diss, Norfolk.
The plans include a digger being used to cut out the path before grading the crushed concrete base.
The work is expected to be a community based event, with many volunteers from in and around the area helping complete the footpath.
According to the woodland secretary Richard Pither, volunteers will lay edging and a membrane after the digger is finished.
Volunteers will return for two more days the following week when the topcoat of the path will be completed.

Concrete industry commits to sustainability
The concrete industry has committed itself to a new industry strategy to further increase its sustainability lead over other construction material sectors, according to the sustainability performance report.
The UK concrete industry signed-up and committed to the Concrete Industry Sustainable Construction Strategy in 2008. This landmark pan-industry agreement is based upon a common vision that ‘by 2012, the UK concrete industry will be recognized as the leader in sustainable construction, by taking a dynamic role in delivering a sustainable built environment in a manner that is profitable, socially responsible and functions within environmental limits’.
The publication of the fourth Concrete Sustainability Performance Report, based on 2010 production, demonstrates how far the industry has come in realising its vision that has been set out. The industry is now showing a vision and determination with a new strategy that commits to further sustainability improvements by 2020 and beyond.
There has also been major progress made by the concrete industry in reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill. When compared to 2008, there has been a 60% reduction in the 2010 figures – this is significantly ahead of the set 15% reduction target.
The concrete industry is a net user of waste and continues to increase its consumption. Currently, it now uses almost 47 times more waste, by-products and secondary materials from other industries than the waste it sends to landfill.
Despite all these recent achievements, the concrete industry is still aiming to develop its sustainability further.
