Vampire Woman Loves Gravel

Apparently mother of four Maria Jose Cristern loves nothing more than a good gravel, especially when it’s ordered through Bulk Aggregates, he favorite variety is the golden 20mm. This former lawyer turned to tattoos and piercings when she was recovering from an assault.
With 98% of her body in tattoos, horn surgically implanted in her forehead and also had dental work to give her fangs, we think that Maria is one very interesting Vamp and also a very big gravel lover.

10mm gravel now cleared from Hampshire beach

Dredged 10mm gravel has been dumped by a sailing club on a Hampshire beach, which covered the sand and left drops that were several feet deep; it has now been cleared up.

In the process of clearing a channel for boats, Hill Head Sailing Club left 4,000 tonnes of gravel waste on Hill Head beach, Fareham.

The mounds of stones have now been spread out along the foreshore to clear the beach.  The stones were dredged up last month by the sailing club, who had put the gravel on the foreshore between high and low water – where the tide can take it away.

This year, the club needed a licence from the Marine Management Organisation, but if it put the gravel above the high water line a licence was not needed.

Councillors blamed a “bureaucratic mistake” which meant the gravel was left above the high water mark.

Councillor Arthur Mandry said: “It was a big bureaucratic mistake, there was some confusion as to where the gravel should be placed.

“It ended up too high up the beach. They have now remedied it and apologised to everybody.”

The council said the sailing club would seek early permission and make sure all the consents were in place before it starts on any future works on the beach.

Containing the gravel in your garden

When you are laying gravel in your garden, it is important to decide how you will contain it around the edges to ensure the end result looks aesthetically appealing.

Timber edging is an option – it is quick, easy and cheap to install, however, it can be difficult if you want curved edges around your gravel area. Bricks and larger cobbles offer a more permanent alternative and can also be set in concrete.

A handy tip is to mark out the area you want to fill before you begin using pegs and lines, as well as keeping your edging high which will stop the gravel spilling out.

Make sure you prepare before laying a gravel path

A gravel path can add a touch of style to your garden, but it is vitally important that you are sure it is laid properly.

There are a couple of ways in which you can prepare area for gravel, but when it comes to preparing for a path, there are some thing you should make sure are done.

It is a good idea to dig down about 10cm and lay a flat compacted layer of hardcore, then lay 3-4 inches of gravel on top of this.

This is important to avoid the gravel sinking or becoming unstable underfoot when wet.

Staffordshire Council spends £16K on a gravel revamp

Muddy grass verges on an estate in Leek, Staffordshire have been given a £16,000 revamp following complaints from residents.

Families living on the Haregate estate were constantly bringing mud through their homes due to the verges being churned up by vehicles.

More than £16,000 has now been spent on laying down hardcore and gravel to replace the problematic grass verges

Gill Heath, county councillor for Leek Rural, said she was glad the problem had finally been resolved: “We’ve had complaints from residents that cars have been churning up these verges, and then people have been tramping the mud into their homes. I went around the affected streets and asked the residents what they wanted doing about it, and in some of the streets they said they’d like to see the grass replaced with gravel, which is what we’ve done.”

Make sure you choose the right size gravel

Laying gravel in the garden is a cheap way to transform an outdoor space and it provides instant results.

However, many people choose the wrong type of gravel which results in a poor job that doesn’t look particularly good at all.

You need to think about what the proposed area is to be used for, and choose the gravel size accordingly. Really small gravel tends to be too fine for areas that will have to cope with lots of foot traffic, as it will spread too easily. However, larger gravel pieces can be uncomfortable underfoot.

Be sure to make the right choice when it comes to ordering the gravel for your garden.
